Sonic Racing transformed came out pretty badass and is alot more enjoyable than Mario Kart 8. But that's probably as far as it goes. Sonic racing games have sucked before that. So I guess Mario wins.

But I bet that Sega would've tried harder on Sonic games if they still made consoles.

Oh yeah, but DKR was a riot at the time. 4 player split screen with my kids when they were young always brings back very fond memories. :)

I'd love to see a modern sequel but stopped holding my breath a decade or more ago. lol

Sonic & All Stars are really good racing games. I prefer transformed over any of the Mario Karts. All the other Sonic racing games have been a bit junk.

Another game we used to love and it's not very well known as far as I can tell is, Dare Devil Derby 3D, on PS1. Top down 4 player racing.

The gameplay wise for Supersonic Racers is pretty much like Micro Machines.

Definitely Mario for me although I did really enjoy Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.

I've tried quite few sonic racing games, and they've all been pretty dire, glitchy and badly made trash.

Most mario racers, on the other hand, have been Nintendo quality goodness.

Mario Kart.

Sonic had two good racers? That's cool and all, but all Mario Karts are good.

Generally Mario Kart is always to be better than Sonic's racing games.

Due to superior gameplay mechanics and smoother frame rate too.

Indeed. Also, taken into account that Nintendo is a much better developer overall than SEGA, it's pretty safe to say Mario Kart will continue being king.

However, I really want another F-Zero made by SEGA. The GC one was amazeballs. I doubt even Nintendo can make a better one.

The mainline Sonic games are like platform-racer hybrids, i.e. platformers that play like racing games. In that sense, Sonic is the better racing franchise.

But as far as pure racing games go, Mario Kart is better than pure Sonic racing games.

F-Zero series also needs to come back in the near future too, the gameplay is really fun and addictive, even better than Sonic Riders IMO.

'Three, two, one, go!', 'You got boost power!', 'Yeah Final Lap!', 'Finish! Alright first place!'.

I never liked Mario Kart, but Transformed is my favorite arcade racer in a long time, so definitely Sonic for me. I'm also still looking forward to Team Sonic Racing next year even though they disappointingly dropped all the references to other SEGA IPs.

Not into kart games much but I did like the two recent sonic ones. Wont be buying the next as they've done away with the other sega characters.
