Norton Symantec Security - It got a bad wrap years ago but in benchmark after benchmark, it remains a top performer at both preventing infection and removing it.

Malwarebytes and Windows defender. I think a no-script extension for your browser is one of the best protections you can have though.

Spot on! same here, keep to this rule and your PC will run like a champ (and also clean inside your PC and apply new thermal paste to your CPU and GPU once a year)

Norton system tools - It's a lot less resource intensive these days and works far better than anything I tried previously

Adblock - I hate adverts, especially "targeted advertising"

I guess Windows defender is in there somewhere as well but I think it's disabled.

@spike6958: I use Avira (although I don't recall the last time I did a scan) and for web browser I have an ad blocker.

I've had this PC since 2011 without issue, this includes downloading everything you can think of.

AVG internet security. Not the free one mind you, but I can protect up to three pc's for a year at the cost of about $30, so it's not that bad.

I just use Kaspersky, an Adblock and some common sense (as many others here as well). I keep Windows up to date as well - even though I actually hate it, because it always breaks my laptop to some degree.

Works for me for many years now and I've never had any major issues. Only once I had to newly set up my PC because it got extremely slow thanks to an infection.

I was using Avira for a while, but their pop-ups are getting really, really, really annoying. I might just find a good paid program and use that.

AVG seems solid.

Trend Micro internet security. I get it free, as a former employee, i have friends who still work there who hook me up. Windows defender is terrible. Resource hog and catches less than 60% of the crap that’s out there.
